The Air Force Women Owned Small Business Outreach Excellence Awards
It's that time again! The Air Force Office of Small & Disadvantaged Business Utilization is proud to announce that the third round of nominations are now open for the Fall 2000 edition of the Women-Owned Small Business Outreach Excellence Awards. The awards were established to recognize Air Force personnel who have provided exemplary service to women-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The awards are held twice year in the Spring and the Fall and are sponsored by the Air Force Office of Small & Disadvantaged Business Utilization and National Women's Business Council. The first awards ceremony was held in October 1999 at the Women Business Summit in Washington DC and will be a part of this year's Summit as well.
Within the structure of the WOSB Excellence awards, two categories have been established: one for best Air Force Small Business Specialist and one for best Air Force Buyer. Women business owners can nominate Air Force personnel who assisted them during the contracting process and are allowed to nominate in both categories if they like. Nominations for the fall regional awards cover April 1, 2000 through September 31, 2000. In others words if you won an Air Force contract during this time period, you are eligible to nominate.
All Air Force bases and Air National Guards have been clustered into three regions within the United States. Twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, each region will have a winner for each of the two categories. From the pool of regional winners, a national winner will be selected for each award that will take place in October.
A panel of judges, from the business industry and the women's business advocacy community, will evaluate and score all nominations. They will then recommend the top three nominees in each award category to the Director of the Air Force Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, who will make the final selection. The winners will be announced and featured in the Air Force quarterly newsletter, The Small Business News Review.
The winners will be announced at the Businesswomen's Leadership Summit and Marketplace scheduled October 15-17, 2000 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC. Past winners are profiled in the Air Force newsletter, The Small Business News Review which is located on the Air Force web site.
