 
< Back to Index Newly Announced "Save the Wetlands Program" Offers Americans a Chance to Help The Save the Wetlands conservation program allows individuals to voluntarily participate in a national cause that benefits people and wildlife. Remarkably, over 90% of the money raised through this program goes directly to the cause. It’s a government program that truly works. The release of the Save the Wetlands campaign in January, 2000 will help to educate people about the importance of wetland conservation and the power they have to make a difference. For just a $30 contribution, people can each help save one-tenth of an acre of wetlands, and receive a certificate and collectible duck stamp in appreciation. The Federal Duck Stamp Program, created in 1934, uses the revenue from Duck Stamp sales to purchase and preserve wetlands throughout America. The Duck Stamp Program has successfully saved over 5 million acres of wetlands, but America continues to lose as much as 100,000 acres of wetlands per year. Wetlands are critical ecosystems, relied on by thousands of species of plants and animals. They also act as a water filter removing pollutants and contaminants from drinking water.
